Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems

Smart Builders does HVAC. We can:
• Repair or replace your duct system
• Replace your furnace
• Replace your air conditioner
• Add whole house ventilation, solar attic fans, and or bath fans

Many of these items qualify for big rebates under the Energy Upgrade CA program.

HVAC systems account for a big portion of most energy bills. And leaky air ducts are a major source of wasted energy and uncomfortable homes. Leaky ducts can also contribute to respiratory problems.

Got asthma? Have your ducts inspected!

Failed duct in crawlspace. This is a very common problem and can contribute to uncomfortable rooms and poor indoor air quality.

The average home that is over twenty years old is losing 30% of the heating & cooling energy to attics and crawlspaces due to leaky ducts. Fixing them is a very cost effective way to save money while making your home more comfortable and improving indoor air quality.

This busted duct is from a production house built in 2006. Even new homes can have significant problems.

This duct was in a 20 year old house. The duct insulation is falling off and the ducts are full of holes. Houses built in the 1980s and 90s seems to be the worst. On the other hand, we frequently we see old ducts constructed of sheet metal in the 1940s and 50s that are still very tight.

Air conditioner efficiency has improved dramatically in recent years. New air conditioners are twice as efficient as those manufactured twenty years ago. Replacing old AC units can save you big and is a smart investment.

Replacing an old furnace with a more efficient model can also save you money, though the return on investment is lower than replacing old air conditioners. However, if your furnace is over 25 years old, the likelihood of a breakdown is high. Rather than repair it, why not get a more efficient unit? If you insulate first, then your new furnace can be sized much smaller than your old one.
